Our Scholarship Endowment Program

Each year we make available educational scholarships to qualified senior students attending Treasure Coast area high schools, junior colleges and preparatory schools.

We offer auditions to those students who have a desire to major in advanced music, music education, or who want to further hone their musical talents, including jazz. Since the program's inception the Treasure Coast Jazz Society has awarded over $100,000 to over 42 scholarship winners.

Our 2010 Scholarship Winners

Gary Zanello was awarded $2,000 for First Place in the Treasure Coast Jazz Society's Annual Scholarship Awards. He plays guitar and comes from Port St. Lucie.

Gary has studied music theory and Jazz for four years at the Indian River Charter High School. He has played in their top Jazz Ensemble. According to Dave Mundy, the Charter School Instrumental Director, "Gary possesses an intuitive sense of musicianship and ability on his guitar...he is one of the most talented musicians I've had the privilege of mentoring since the start of my program in 2001. He is a gigging musician, playing in local clubs and venues throughout our area and has gained quite a reputation as 'Gary Z'. I frequently hire Gary for my professional jazz combo; his playing is fresh and exciting, he has an incredible ear for melody and chord progressions and he's a fast learner and improvisor."

According to Gary, his dream has always been to attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston. He auditioned for them and was accepted for the fall of 2010. We foresee a bright musical future for Gary Zanello.

Our Second Place award of $1,000 was given to pianist Daniel Bryan. He also comes from Port St. Lucie.

Daniel has been studying music at the Indian River Charter High School since enrolling there his sophomore year. By his junior year he had advanced to Jazz IV, the top performing IRCHS Jazz Ensemble. Over this period he also broadened his musical experience to include not only jazz, but classical, rock, Christian and other genres. The Charter School's Dave Mundy said he believed "Daniel's musicianship and performance in my program has been exemplary...I have seen his musicianship improve dramatically. He has a good sense of time, reads well, and plays the piano with passion and soul."

Daniel has already started college, pursuing music at the University of Central Florida. We sincerely wish him the best.
