Our
Scholarship Endowment Program
Each
year we make available educational scholarships to qualified
senior students attending Treasure Coast area high schools,
junior colleges and preparatory schools.
We offer
auditions to those students who have a desire to major in advanced
music, music education, or who want to further hone their musical
talents, including jazz. Since the program's inception the Treasure
Coast Jazz Society has awarded nearly $100,000 to over 40 scholarship
winners.

Introducing
Conrad James Kusel, a
resident of Palm City and a graduate of South Fork High
School. He received our annual $3,000 college scholarship.
|
James began playing
tenor sax in the 5th grade and started his jazz education
in the 6th grade from Greg Power of Jensen Beach. He went
on to South Fork High School where he played lead tenor
with the Jazz Band for four years as well as with the
school's symphonic band. Overall, he received a superior
rating as a Level Seven soloist, the highest rating available.
James was also a member
of the Four County Honor Jazz Band and their symphonic
band for four years; he also participated in the Atlantic
Saxophone Quartet, performing at local social occasions
and nursing homes.
To quote James, "I
wish to pursue my interest
in jazz. In my last six years of school, jazz has been my
musical priority and I hope to keep it that way. In college
I hope to perform in the jazz band...with an interest in minoring
in music performance studies as well. I have worked meticulously
on my musical education to become proficient in jazz and the
art of improvisation."
The Treasure Coast
Jazz Society salutes James as a most worthy recipient of
this scholarship. He is currently attending Northwestern
University in Evanston, IL.
